Principal Kelly Wright, Ed.S

Dear NSJ Families,
I am honored and excited to begin my fifth year here as the Principal of Nellie Stone Johnson. It will be my privilege to serve the students here at NSJ. I started my educational journey over 30 years ago in Minneapolis Public Schools rignt on the northside and I am truly thrilled to return.
I would like to take this time to welcome all families to NSJ. I welcome our returning families and our families who are new to the school. I am so glad you are here! The entire NSJ staff is looking forward to an awesome year, working with you to ensure all of our students will achieve and believe in reaching their highest potential.
I look forward to building strong school-family connections with the students, staff, and families of NSJ. You have entrusted us with your most precious possession, your child and I do not take that lightly. We want to partner with you in this work. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children's success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities and you can help us with this partnership by making sure your child is at school and ready to learn. Also, listed below are a few things that will help your child have a successful school year:
• Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
• Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
• Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
• Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
• Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college
It is going to be another fantastic year of learning at NSJ! As always, thank you for all you do to support your child's education.
Sincerely,
Kelly Wright

Hello, NSJ families and welcome!
I’m Dr. Emily Renner, and I couldn’t be more excited to be part of our school community this year. As the Administrative Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), 3rd-5th Grade Advanced Learner Teacher, and Area Learning Center (ALC) Lead, I’m here to support our amazing scholars and educators in every way possible.
Over the years, I’ve had the joy of working in various roles at NSJ, including Kindergarten Teacher, Behavioral Interventionist, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) TOSA, and Instructional Specialist. I began with MPS in 2011. In addition to my current and pervious experience at NSJ, I have served MPS as an Associate Educator and 1st and 2nd grade teacher. Each position I have held has deepened my passion for education and my commitment to creating a welcoming and nurturing environment for our scholars.
I truly believe that when we work together—scholars, families, and the community—we can achieve great things! I’m looking forward to another fantastic year of learning, growing, and celebrating our scholars’ successes.
Let’s make this year special together! If you'd like to partner with me, please do not hesitate to reach out via email: Emily.Renner@mpls.k12.mn.us or by calling the office (612)668-2930 ext. 42456. I look forward to working with you and your child/children this school year!
